The wooden snake is hand carved from Australian native timber and hand painted by local indigenous artists.
A feature of the art work is the mix of colors, the different patterns and dot designs.
These designs represent the Aboriginal culture of the Fitzroy Valley area and other areas in the Kimberley region on North Western Australia.
SNAKE IN ABORIGINAL CULTURE
In Aboriginal culture people revere and feared the snake as the creator. There have been many Dreamtime stories around the snake, notably about the Rainbow serpent.
