DESCRIPTION
This unique and rare vintage art work features a wooden snake, hand cared from Australian native timber and then hand
painted by local indigenous artist Lisa Smith. Lisa is from the Kimberley (Fitzroy) Valley area of NW Western Australia. A feature of the art work is the
mix of colors, the different patterns and dot designs. These designs represent
the traditional Aboriginal culture of the Fitzroy Valley area.
SNAKE IN ABORIGINAL CULTURE
In Aboriginal culture people revere and feared the snake as the creator.
There have been many Dreamtime stories around the snake, notably about the
Rainbow serpent.
